The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event
A visit to the “Horse Capital of the World” is not complete without seeing The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, one of the world’s most significant international equestrian events, that returns to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, April 24-27.
The only Four Star Event in the Western Hemisphere, and one of only six worldwide held annually at this level, the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event hosts many of the world’s best horses and riders as they compete for $250,000. Heading the list of regular competitors are Olympic and World Championship medalists and other seasoned veterans of international equestrian competition.
In Eventing, horses and riders are tested in three phases of competition—Thursday and Friday, Dressage, the elegant display of harmony between horse and rider; Saturday, Cross-Country, the exhilarating race over various natural obstacles spread over a course nearly five miles long; and Sunday, Jumping, a test of the competitor’s ability to perform over a course of colored obstacles where a rail can be knocked off by the slightest touch of a hoof. No other equestrian sport supplies as much excitement for spectators.
In addition to the heart pounding equestrian action, one of the most popular attractions at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event is the chance to stroll through the more than 150 shops and boutiques, offering all manner of clothing, accessories and gift items, as well as a wide variety of delicious foods.
